Sex addict.

Now, they’re both addicted.
One hit was all it took.

Monday Musings: I’m So Ready For Fall…

Autumn reads willsoon be here!

Monday Musings III

There are three things I look forward to every fall:

  1. Football
  2. Sweater weather
  3. Fall book releases

I don’t know about y’all, but to me, the autumn releases are always on point! Summer releases are pretty dry for me, but when the temperature drops outside, the heat index in these books seem to rise. I can always count on a handful of gems to download into my Kindle as I snuggle up with a steaming cup of tea, my fuzzy socks, and super-soft cardigan.

This week, I’ll be showcasing a few autumn releases that will definitely be worth checking out. I can’t wait!

Throwback Thursday: The President’s Girlfriend by Mallory Monroe

Throwback Thursday

One thing I’ve discovered about certain authors: You’re either a fan, or you’re not. There’s no in between, and Mallory Monroe is one of those authors.

The President's Girlfriend

Personally, I love Mallory Monroe because she writes these serial, nighttime drama-esque romances that are full of over-the-top action, hot sex, and whodunits. Without fail, you can count on these three things with every story in all of her series, and The President’s Girlfriend is the pilot that started the series.

So…The President’s Girlfriend. When the series starts, then senator, Walter “Dutch” Harbor meets attorney Regina Lansing a hotel lounge (I think. It’s been years since I read it, and I only remember the juicy stuff.) After some small talk and a drink or two, they hit the sheets with no real intention of really seeing each other, but they do leave a lasting impression.

Flash Forward: Dutch Harbor is now President Harbor and Regina Lansing is in private practice, and they meet by chance when she’s trying to get some legislation passed or something (Told y’all it’s been a minute…) Dutch is the debonair, charismatic, and very single POTUS (You know this some fiction) who is smitten (ok, pussy-whipped) by beautiful, black Gina (His mama and the rest of America are having a fit. LOVES IT!!!)

Now that you have the basics, the rest is just high-end drama! You know everybody and they mama is constantly trying to break them up on both sides. There are secret affairs, surprise children, and skeletons galore. The haters are in full force! If you can make it through the first book, this series will become quickly addictive. To date, there are eight books in total. The small fortune I paid, was definitely worth the price.

New Release: Perfectly Imperfect by D.A. Young

Casey 2

Casey 2

Have you met the men of Whiskey Row? No? Then you have a lot of catching up to do. For those who are familiar with the brothers Sullivan, the latest installment in this thrilling, soap opera-ish drama is available! I swear this series needs to be a weekly TV series-but on HBO or Starz ’cause I don’t want not watered down version of this saga.

Whiskey Row Header

Perfectly Imperfect features the Sullivan baby brother Casey and the one woman once hated to love but now cannot live without, Sidra Barton.

Perfectly Imperfect Teaser I

Handsome attorney Casey Sullivan is a catch, and everyone seems to know it except his beautiful, but slightly deranged girlfriend, deejay Sidra Barton! Just the slightest mention of ‘happily ever after’ has her ready to run out the door. Not that she’ll get far because Casey Sullivan always gets what he wants, and he wants Sidra Barton.

Casey is ready to go the distance for what his heart desires, but the finish line to Sidra’s heart will be an uphill journey. Together they will face their pain and fears to obtain the ultimate happiness. Unfortunately, not everyone believes they should be together and will challenge the love they’ve fought so hard to obtain. Guess they’ll just have to learn the hard way not to get between a Sullivan and his woman.

Perfectly Imperfect Teaser III

The entire series is available on Kindle Unlimited.

For five decades, Micah’s African American mother has remained silent about Micah’s estranged father (Sidney Irving). It is not until after Sidney Irving’s death that Micah learns that she is the daughter of the legendary novelist and screenwriter. Now with her mother’s memory fading away from Alzheimer’s disease, Micah can only rely on a novel that was written from her father years ago to understand her parents past during the time of segregation in the United States. With an abandoned heart, Micah must forgive the past in order to discover who she really is.

The Wrap-Up: Brand New Releases

new releases!

I usually like to give authors their own post when they drop a new one, but I’m gonna be crazy busy for the remainder of the month, so blog posts will be sparse til the beginning of September. Blah, blah, blah…But there were some new releases by a few vets that are worth checking out. Happy Weekend, and no Monday Musings next week (Sorry😛😀 )

Here are three releases by a couple of veteran authors that are new, noteworthy, and oh-so-different…

New Release: Extraction by Xyla Turner

Title: Extraction

Author: Xyla Turner

Genre: Interracial Romance, (Ex)Military Romance, MC Romance

Standalone, No Cliffhanger

I love that Xyla Turner isn’t afraid to tackle subjects that we deal with in life, and Extraction is no exception. So often, a romance with romanticize and idealize the life of an ex-military person (and that’s cool, totes not knocking it), but more often than not, a man will come home broken, mentally and spiritually, and this is the story of Goliath (whoo…that name, lol) Minnows, an emotionally-wounded soldier who has to learn how to deal and feel again.

Emotionally wounded veteran, Goliath is on a quest to be alone and out of anyone’s business but his own. The problem is the small town he chooses has the potential to prevent that from happening. Who knew his downfall would lead to the carefree neighbor, Phoebe, interrupting his drowning flow in an attempt to rescue Goliath from himself. Despite being angry, Goliath is intrigued by this woman who has set her sights on helping him despite the numerous attempts to get rid of her. Neither knows the other’s secret….Will things change once they are revealed?

Monday Musings: Hidden Gems Make The Best Reads

Monday Musings II

This week’s musing is inspired by actual comments on this post that  Felicia and I were having about reading a book in your library or wish list that you weren’t actually crazy or excited about, but you just took a chance, and…

Hidden gems, for me, are a rare phenomenon because I’m so damn picky and critical. There was a time when I was that carefree, whatever reader, but once you read a few books that are just so well-written and put together, your expectations change, and you tell yourself that you’re not going backward! I know that sounds a little (ok, may a lot elitist or whatever), but reading for me is an expensive habit for me. I spend in books in a month, the equivalent of filling my gas tank up, so yeah, I do kinda have a certain level of expectation, especially when the blurb gets me all hyped. My Kindle graveyard will prove it (Man, if I could get all that money back…)

I’ve been pretty lucky my last few book shopping trips. I’ve discovered some really good reads that I would classify as hidden gems. I’ve also bought a few cubic zirconias, and while they didn’t quite shine as brightly as the hidden gems, they did satisfy my immediate need to read something and entertained me.

If you’re so brave, list a hidden gem of yours in the comments. Genre is of no importance. I just wanna know what left you feeling like queen of the world because you enjoyed it that much..

ps-It’s August. WTF????

Recommended Read: Leveling The Field by Megan Erickson

Happy Saturday!

Real talk: Whenever I read a romance featuring a black heroine and written by a non-black person, I brace myself because I never know what I’m going to get. Am I going to get a stereotype or a caricature of how this writer perceives black women or does this writer know a black woman intimately and asked questions because as much as we’re all the same, we’re also different in many, many ways, from our ideals, views on society, and our culture, of course. And I’m saying all this to say: Megan Erickson did the damn thang in Leveling The Field!

Lissa Kingsman is everything in a young black woman that I wish we all were: proud of who she was as a black woman, living carefree in the skin she was born in, turning her passions into her profession, and owning her sexuality to the fullest. And girlfriend carries an emergency headscarf in her bag, cause yeah, you gotta be prepared for unexpected overnight trips…Now don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t some preachy, this is how you should live your life narrative because it is far from that. But these are the things that I took away. I was just so overjoyed to read about this young woman. There wasn’t just telling but showing, and I was all kinds of

Now, let’s get on to the story, lolol…Yeah, this is an actual romance…

Ethan Talley is a sexy gamer turned hermit after a tragic accident left him physically and emotionally scarred. He blames himself for the death of his sister and has shut himself off physically and emotionally from the world-until he meets Lissa Kingsman. It wasn’t love at first sight, but lust at first sight, and the feeling was mutual. And BLAM! There was no buildup, they acted on it like any two consenting adults would, and I loved it! Now that’s the sweet part.

While Ethan and Lissa agree that their attraction is purely physical, you know you can’t connect with someone physically without at least one person catching feelings. Yup, feelings got caught, thrown back, and caught again. This story is a rollercoaster of emotions, and yes, there is an HEA. You know I don’t mess with no romantic story otherwise.
